Youth Orchestra

SMYOC's Youth Orchestra (YO) is a full symphonic orchestra suitable for already skilled youth instrumentalists playing string, wind, percussion or brass instruments. Non-traditional orchestral instruments (eg. saxophone) are also welcome. The YO repertoire tends to focus on the major symphonic works of the Classical and Romantic periods, but the group also regularly plays works from other periods and in other styles.

Private lessons are very strongly encouraged for all instrumentalists in the YO. Our YO musicians tend to be highly motivated in their musical development and have the technical skills to play on a “student concerto” level (Level 4) and above.

The YO rehearses on a weekly basis throughout the school year and performs in multiple concerts per season.

Under the direction of Mr. Julien Benichou, the upcoming YO season will include a side-by-side concert with COSMIC Symphony in March and a performance with acclaimed guest opera singer Kevin Short in October.

In late June 2020, the group will go on tour to Montreal, Canada.
