Preparatory Strings Orchestra

The SMYOC Preparatory Strings Orchestra (PSO) is the place for talented, motivated young string musicians (violin, viola, cello, double bass) who are already comfortable on their instruments but eager to develop their skills in an ensemble setting. Players must already be able to read music and have the technical ability to play at an advanced-beginner level. These students may be starting to play elementary scales and etudes. Repertoire is usually around book or level 2-3.

The PSO rehearses on a weekly basis throughout the school year and performs in one or more formal concerts per season.

Ms. Alicia Sampson, Conductor of PSO, is a strings teacher with a thriving private studio in Southern Calvert County. She begins her 4th year as the conductor of the PSO in the 2019-2020 season.
